Transgender person

The term “transgender” is used to describe someone whose gender identity is different than the sex assigned at birth. Some people put an asterisk on the end of trans* so that the word includes all people with nonconforming gender identities. The term “transsexual” was once used to refer to people whose gender identities don’t match the sex that was assigned at birth, but is now considered outdated and some people find it offensive. The word “tranny” is now considered a slur and should not be used.
