Vocabulary of preferred terminology

This terminology is based on the concept of people-first language – a way of communication that places the focus on the individual, and only then describes their diagnosis, state of health, disability or social status. Individuals are described as “having” certain traits and not “being” a certain way. The aim of this way of communication is to avoid marginalization and conscious or subconscious dehumanization when we talk about people with differences. So whenever we mention someone, it’s best to describe them as a person and then mention their characteristics.
