“Queer” is an umbrella term that refers to either members of the LGBT + community in general, or people society whose identity is not heterosexual but goes beyond the abbreviation LGBT. The term has a complicated history and some people find it offensive, so it’s best to use the word when self-identifying or quoting someone who self-identifies as queer.
