How to support those around you every day

04.09.2022

Encourage others to feel comfortable around you. Your tone and even posture, manner of communication affect how people see you and what they feel – whether they trust you, whether they follow your advice, whether they behave calmly, whether they are open for support.

Even with the aggressive people, you can communicate more effectively (and potentially reduce emotional tension) if you approach them politely.

What should be done and what should be avoided?

  • Maintain an open, relaxed posture: do not cross your arms over your chest, do not stand far from the person.
  • Maintain eye contact, but do not stare at the person for too long and intently.
  • Don’t be distracted by your phone.
  • Introduce yourself clearly.
  • Maintain a calm and soft tone of voice, do not speak too loudly and quickly.
  • Make sure the interlocutor feels comfortable while communicating with you.
  • Listen carefully to the person – this is perhaps the most important support during communication. We write more about it here.
