It is recommended to avoid language that sensationalizes or normalizes suicide or presents it as a solution or a goal. For example, the terms “failed attempt” or “unsuccessful attempt” depict suicide as a goal, project or solution, when it is actually something that can happen it a moment of despair or as a result of depression. We should also avoid writing about suicide in a way that presents it as a person’s defining characteristic or stigma.
