Acceptance means valuing the fact that the world is diverse and populated with different people. Each of us has the right to be respected and treated with dignity.

Sometimes people realize that they are surrounded by other social groups, but they do not fully accept them. For example, the following opinion can be heard about the LGBT + community in our society: “Yes, they have the right to live, but we’d prefer for them to be neither heard, nor seen.” That is, people like that are aware that LGBT+ people exist, but they still do not fully accept the right of these people to live their private lives.

When we talk about acceptance in the context of building a barrier-free society, we mean the willingness to live and interact with completely different people. This can be illustrated by the phrase: “Yes, you are different from me, but that’s normal, I respect your feelings, I appreciate you, because you are as much a human being as me.”
