1 May

International Workers’ Day

Перше травня (День міжнародної солідарності трудящих)

On May 1, 1886, workers in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and other US cities began a strike against the 10-15 hour working day. Ordinary workers then demanded that factory owners let them work for only 8 hours a day, and several dozen people were injured in clashes with the police. And from 1889, this day began to be commemorated with mass demonstrations with social demands. In Ukraine, May 1 is traditionally a holiday that we spend with family, relatives and friends, usually outside of the city. However, it is worth remembering its history: May 1 remains a day when it is worth talking about workers’ rights and working conditions.
